Appalachian Section Trail Hike Grayson Highlands to Damascus May 2020
At least once a year, I take time off from the work schedule to get some some much needed trail therapy.
This year, I planed to a hike from Grayson Highlands State Part to Damascus. The following year I hiked from Damascus Virginia to Dennis Cove. A good friend, Janet provided trail magic by helping me drop my truck and hitch a ride to allow accomplishment of these section hikes.
I enjoy the time alone on the trail. It allows my mind to be awed by nature and think and ponder life’s mysteries. This hike was a total opposite of last years. As I was dropped off at Grayson Highlands State Park, the clouds were already gathering into a gray gloom.
One of the aspects of hiking I truly enjoy is roughing it. Pitting myself against the elements of anything Mother Nature can throw at me. This section hike tested my the limits.
Quick Visit to Lynchburg Virginia, old town section. I happened upon a young high school graduate. He agreed to an impromptu cap and gown photo.
Beautiful spot to visit. Quiet little town. I only had time to meander for a short time. The War Memorial Hill was fascinating.
Stumpy Lake
Stumpy Lake in Virginia Beach, Virginia provides so many nature and landscape photography opportunities. Providing several shots to show the beauty of this spot. I enjoy capturing sunset shots on the east end of the lake. A wonderful wooden pier allows for good views and fishing.
Super Moon Worm Moon March 2020
I looked for an opportunity to capture some shots of the rising moon. I picked the Lesner bridge as a possible spot. It was an awesome view. I found myself just staring at the moon as it rose. I had to remind myself I was here to capture it in photo as well.
Spring's new life
New life of spring is already here. Some images from Brock Environmental Center and First Landing State Park early March,

It was one of those rare foggy nights. I was already tired from a long work week, but decided I might find some good shots on the boardwalk. I had my trust tripod to help. Used F stops in the higher ranges and long exposure time to get in some good shots. Take a look and enjoy
More Lesner Bridge shots at night.
I took advantage of another crisp clear cold February night to get some night shots of Lesner bridge. Tripod makes these captures possible. I was using my trusty Nikon D600 kit lens. F13 with ISO at 160 and 2 second shutter speed. I played with some editing features using Adobe Lightroom. Black and White focuses an alternative perspective.
Lesner Bridge at night
This was my first attempt at some night shots of Lesner Bridge. It’s lighted seasonally in different colors.
Sunset at BackBay
One of my favorite places to visit at sunset. I continue to learn to use my Nikon D600.
